Reading & Northern 425: Steam Through the Fall Foliage
On Sunday, October 18th, 2009, the Reading & Northern Railroad ran a steam-powered excursion between Port Clinton and Jim Thorpe, so passengers could experience the fall foliage in Carbon & Schuylkill counties. The foliage was indeed spectacular, and the crew of #425 put on an awesome as we follow along trackside. This video includes a few shots from Port Cinton to Jim Thorpe, turning on the turntable in Jim Thorpe, and a final scene as the train head back towards Port Clinton. Full-length feature video is now on sale! Visit www.pennrailvideos.com for information.

what locomotives are in that? roundhouse at 1:36 ?
At 6:10, there is a diesel visible? on the left that appears to be a Baldwin. What can you tell me about this engine?
God creates man, man creates steam? engine. Gotta love the 425. Another great video!
@PereMarquette1223 It’s not coming back. It’s staying down? at Clifton Forge.
@CSX6000 Oh ya, I remember now. Forgot about the video date.? It’s still there? NS never moved it back?
@PereMarquette1223 614? is in Clifton Forge, VA as of 2011.
And the 614 sits. Why don’t the Reading? and Northern guys run it like they do 425?
@eltonjohnfan100? CNJ 3 chime.
nice video? adam….what type of whistle was this ???? it was great!
@JohnnySTEAMstain I sent Ross a? message on TrainOrders. Hopefully this will correct the issue.
Adam, I can tell you now, that is NOT Ross Rowland. I’ve seen Ross’s writing on other forums like RYPN, and this is definitely NOT him. Ross is extremely? well-written and has near-excellent grammar and spelling. This guy can’t even spell “assure” and I know Ross would have picked up on that.
@ChesapeakeOhio614 You know what I dunno if your Lenny impersonating Ross Rowland or that you actually ARE Ross Rowland. It doesn’t matter, I stand my ground and I have other to back me up that Len Shaner is nothing but a fraud and will brown-nose anyway he can to? get what he wants.
CSX6000,
I have known Mr. Shaner for close to 20 years , I’m not sure of the false rumors you have been fed, But I a sure you, You are wrong about what your thinking of Mr. Shaner. He has help me out in quite a few projects over the years.
Including my newest project “The Greenbrier Express”.
As I stated before “? I for one am richer to know him as a friend”
Ross Rowland
@ChesapeakeOhio614 As far as anybody in this area is concerned, you have done yourself absolutely no favors by associating with Len Shaner. You’ll understand as time? goes on; don’t say you weren’t warned.
CSX6000 ,
I consider Len a friend with a good heart and a passion for railroading that is readily evident when you meet him.
To his credit he has done his level best to move the 565 project forward at Steamtown .
He may have challenges with grammar and punctuation and perhaps some other short comings…but he certainly doesn’t lack passion and commitment to enjoying this thing called railroading.
I for one am richer to? know him as a friend.
Ross Rowland
When I went to Jim Thorpe last spring, the engine’s second tender was in a? siding! It was really cool
HaloCE14, ” 614″ Not? in our life time.
My girlfriend even mentioned to me that the whistle in the beginning of the video reminds her of the horns from the movie “Silent Hill”? haha
That is the most amazing steam whistle? i’ve heard. I’d pay so much to own one of those
