Salou Station / la Estación de Salou (August 2009)

Views of Salou station, including the steam locomotive outside the station, regional train services, and long and middle distance Arco and Talgo trains. The best part of this video is at the end when a Euromed service passes through the station at 100 miles per hour, only two feet from my camera – blowing my hat off in the process. What a rush that was.

5029 Nunney Castle with the Weymouth Seaside Express on 29th August 2010

We follow 5029 Nunney Castle on Sunday 29th August 2010 with the Weymouth Seaside Express. The first scene is at Trowbridge where it pulls in to pickup passengers. Then the driver pulls forward and plonks the beast right under the roadbridge thus covering myself and others in swirling coal ash, water and hot condensing steam thus making filming impossible under such conditions (I wont do that again in a hurry) The second shot sees 5029 powering up out of Frome after having taken on water and making for the mainline connection for its onward journey to Weymouth. Mid-morning all the evening timings were revised, so I decided to return to Frome to catch the engine prior to taking on water. It arrived at Frome at 7.55pm. When I turned up at the station at 615pm everyone there, including the water tanker driver, were unaware of the revised timings until I showed them on the UK Steam website. Aaaahh the beauty of the internet on a mobile.

The Last Steam Service – 15 Guineas Special 11 August 1968

Footage from the ’15 Guineas Special’ on 11 August 1968. It was the last steam hauled passenger service on British Railways. The train is travelling from Dent station in Yorkshire north towards Carlisle on the Settle-Carlisle railway. The National Railway Museum will be holding “1968”, an event from 24 May — 1 June to celebrate 40 years since the end of steam on mainline railways. The event will see Oliver Cromwell (the train in the film, currently being restored specifically to star in our 1968 celebrations) visit the Museum and first hand accounts from people who witnessed the end of steam. We are asking for anyone to come forward who may have been involved with Oliver Cromwell and the 15 Guineas Special. Please contact Catherine.Farrell@nrm.org.uk. Video reproduced by permission of the BFI. www.nrm.org.uk See the Oliver Cromwell (70013) 40 years later, during its recent restoration, here: uk.youtube.com The 1968 event runs throughout the last week of May, buy your tickets now! www.nrm.org.uk
