Aster 3 cylinder marine steam engine

This is an Aster 3 cylinder model marine steam engine, made in Japan in the 1980’s. The burner is a self pressurising alcohol burner, and by comparison to the very similar Saito burners, is considerably more tricky to ignite. I’ve included a sequence to show how the burner needs to be coaxed into life. Once burning it will run for over 20 minutes. It is probably the lightest model steam plant for it’s size ever put on the market. This model has the hand lever for forward/reverse, but it can be replaced with a factory fitting for servo control.

Steam is compressed in a cylinder with a sliding piston in a steam engine. The resisting pressure, Pext, is
66666.66666666667 Pascals, the volume changes from 195.0 L to 66.4 L, and 4200.0 J of energy is lost to the surroundings as heat. Calculate the change in energy of the steam in Joules.

w = -Pext?V
