The BEST of GRESLEY: Mallard


Gresley’s Class A4 Pacific steam locomotive Mallard claimed a world speed record for steam traction of 126 mph in 1938. As the 50th anniversary of the record-breaking run approached in the late 1980’s the National Railway Museum rebuilt the locomotive to allow a brief return to the mainline. This footage celebrates an impressive machine and a magnificant restoration project by our NRM.
