Part II – Hull-Oakes Railroad Operation

Hull-Oakes is one of the last steam-powered saw mills in existence and has been in operation since 1938. The mill generates lumber loads on railroad centerbeam cars as well as wood chip loads. Located at the end of the six mile Bailey Branch, switching operations provide an interesting logistical challenge. In 2007, rail service was suspended due to deteriorating conditions of the rails. This video documents the end of that era. Are there any steam locomotives in operation nowadays?

I don’t think I’ve seen an operable steam locomotive. I’ve seen plenty of diesel and electric locomotives, but I’ve only seen steam locomotives at trains museums and places similar to that.
