Lionel Union Pacific FEF

Here is a video of a Lionel Electric Trains Union Pacific FEF-3 #844 steam locomotive going around the Christmas Tree. Lionel did an excellent job with this locomotive and it operates as well as it both looks and sounds. Words really can’t describe how nice this locomotive is without seeing and hearing it in person. It really is a very beautiful locomotive. This locomotive features Legacy, Railsounds, an electro coupler on the rear of the tender, a fan driven smoke unit, a wireless tether, and Odyssey speed control. The train is made up of reefer cars from Atlas O, Lionel, MTH Electric Trains, and Weaver Models. Behind the reefer cars are two Lionel 40 foot flat cars with Allis Chalmers construction equipment. The first flat car has a model 45 motor grader and the second is carrying a model TS-300 motor scraper. Both of those models were made for the National Toy Truck’n and Construction toy show that Toy Trucker and Contractor magazine has each year in Indianapolis. Following the flat cars are three Lionel tank cars and behind them is a K-Line boxcar. And bringing up the rear is a Lionel Union Pacific Ca-4 caboose. The train is being operated with Lionel Legacy. The track is K-Line tubular with O-96 radius curves. The 844 was the last of 45 4-8-4 northern type steam locomotives the Union Pacific owned. The name FEF came from the wheel arrangement of these locomotives, Four Eight Four. All 45 FEFs were built by the American Locomotive Company, otherwise known as ALCo. The

Lionel Legacy Union Pacific FEF-3 #844 (GREY)

Last of the Great Steam Locomotives Between 1937 and 1944, in a series of three classes, Union Pacific received its entire line of 45 Alco-built FEF 4-8-4 “Northern” locomotives. Famous for high speed passenger service, these 4-8-4 bullets pulled Union Pacific trains like the Overland Flyer, Portland Rose, and Challenger at speeds as high as 100 mph. Displaced by the arrival of diesel locomotives in the mid 1950′s, many FEF steam locomotives quickly “met the cutting torch,” while others were reassigned to freight service, where they continued to haul loads at record speeds. One special Union Pacific Northern still operates today: the legendary #844 FEF-3 4-8- 4. This engine holds the distinguished honor of being the only steamer never retired by a North American Class I railroad, and the last steam locomotive ever built for the Union Pacific. Still used for company and public excursions, it is kept at the Union Pacific engine house in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Now the legendary #844 FEF-3 (Four-Eight- Four, Series 3) locomotive is offered by Lionel. It is made from all-new tooling, and comes equipped with the LEGACY Command Control System,LEGACY RailSounds, and prototypically accurate detailing and decoration. The Lionel FEF-3 locomotive is available in two classic schemes: black with a light graphite smoke box and firebox, or two-tone grey passenger scheme featuring Armour Yellow lettering and striping. Both FEF- 3 locomotives are accurately modeled with dual stacks and
