West Somerset Railway ’35th Anniversary’ Spring Steam Gala – Saturday 19th March 2011

For the West Somerset Railway 2011 marks the 35th Anniversary of the re-opening of the line, on march 28th 1976 the first WSR train left Minehead with a service to Blue Anchor and by 1979 the line finally reached Bishops Lydeard, this spring gala was to celebrate all the work the railway has done over the 35 years and played host to several visitors who are making their first visit to the railway, the highlight of the gala is guest locomotive 70000 ‘Britannia’ who just recently came into traffic and hauled her first passengers trains on the WSR. The full line up for the gala is — |BR 7MT ‘Britannia’ Class 4-6-2 70000 ‘Britannia |SR ‘King Arthur’ Class 6-6-0 30777 ‘Sir Lamiel’ |GWR ‘Manor’ Class 4-6-0 7812 ‘Erlestoke Manor’ |GWR 28xx Class 2-8-0 2807 |GWR 64XX Class 0-6-0 ‘Pannier Tank’ 6430 |GWR ‘Large Prairie’ Class 2-6-2T 4160 |SDJR 7F 2-8-0 88 |GWR ‘Small Prairie’ Class 2-6-2T 5553 |WSR ‘Mogul’ 2-6-0 9351 (Spare Locomotive) Saturday 19th was greeted with fairly good weather conditions and most trains kept to time throughout the whole day, another highlight for the gala was that select trains will not stop at Stogumber and one of the highlights of my day was 7812 speeding through Stogumber, thanks to theonlyadsrulz for a good day out. Shots in the video are — – 2807 steams through Bishops Lydeard to collect the stock – 2807 brings the Stock into Platform 2 at Bishops Lydeard – 2807 departs Bishops Lydeard with the 0900 service to Minehead – 6430 departs Bishops
