Are steam trains still used in some parts of the world?

Are there countries in the world that still use Steam locomotives as form of transportation?

Not just as tourist attractions, but for commerce, trade and industry.

How steam change the world?

I know alot of old cities had steam tunnel where the main way to get heat is from pipes.In the steam tunnel there are pipes for water and steam .That was the way in the old days to get water or steam for heat.

But some buildings had boiler room with a big tank heating water that turns to steam and use the steam for heat.Where did they get the water for the boiler ?

In the old days cars and trains use steam for power !!! How did this work?

Are there still any steam locomotives somewhere in the world still being used for shippping cargo?

I heard China still used Steam Locomotives in some areas in the earlier decade, are there still any areas still using them.

Fairy Queen – World Oldest Running Steam Engine

It is the world’s oldest locomotive in working condition. Built in 1855 by Kitson Thompson and Hewitson of Leeds, UK this engine has once again been pressed into service on popular demand since 27-Sep-1997 and has been periodically hauling tourist trains between Delhi and Alwar. This engine was the first exhibit to be brought to the National Rail Museum in New Delhi, at the time of the laying of its foundation stone in 1971. This locomotive is said to have hauled troop trains to Raniganj during the 1857 War of Independence. The engine weighs 26 tonnes, has a gauge of 5′ 6″, coal capacity of 2 tonnes(app.), wheel arrangement with 2-2-2 T WT and Stephenson valve gear.

with diesel prices on the rise and the world’s version of O:P:E:C controlling these said prices.knowing my idea too install the modern date Hydrogen fuel cell technology into the old world style train engines.it only has positive effect of which stem’s from it’s design already suited for the space age change over.the steam piping could be reduced in size while the internal tank tube could retain the new engines and the ash could be sent out the bottom and spewed along the sides of the track’s=effective weed control while rain spreads it like fertilizer unto the surounding plant life thus both effects are positive & folks whom hath not gotten to enjoy hearing an ancient sounding train whistle could re live this event each time one passes his or her area close proximity unto the track’s.my version would be nitrogen cooled produce=ing the frozen carbon dioxide like snow +steamy smoke effect and nick named Frosty a fitting name for a train rebuilt this close unto Frost Oil company.as i said earlier i could buy the Love box company here in Fayetteville Arkansas and build the new shed out back & work on my train’s one by one.while my crew build Toy’s inside the Factory’s buildings.the pitch Black Frisco line train down in fort smith Ar, is perfect and looks like the one from Johnny Cash’s music video.during times when our rail system needs to compete these old trains become the wave of the space age energy efficient future.yet the answer you give our country desides their fate.
